How many driving lessons will i need?

Average manual and Automatic Driving Lesson prices in Leicester

One of the most frequent questions learners ask their instructors is ‘How many driving lessons will I need?’ The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) states there’s no set minimum. Learning speed varies greatly, with most drivers requiring around 45 professional lessons and 22 hours of practice with family or friends.

While it’s impossible to give an exact number, our experience suggests an average learner needs about 30 hours of professional instruction. We’ve even seen exceptional students pass in just 16-20 hours!

To get a personalized estimate, we offer an assessment lesson. This helps us evaluate your driving skills and provide a more accurate prediction of the number of lessons you’ll likely need.

Several factors can influence this: your age, your instructor’s teaching style, your budget, how often you can take lessons, local driving conditions, the amount of private practice you can get, and your individual learning style. Remember, everyone learns differently!

What do I need to do before I can start driving lessons?

You must have a provisional license. This will need to be shown to your driving instructor in your first lesson. You also should be able to read a car number plate at 20.5 meters.

How often I should take driving lessons?

Its entirely up to you. You should take at least 1 hour lesson a week. The more lessons you take the more quicker you will learn. We recommend 1.5 or 2 hours lessons a week.

How many Driving Lessons will I need?

Average Driving Lessons in Leicester

This is the most common question asked by learner drivers to their instructor. This is what DVSA says “There’s no minimum number of lessons you must have or hours you must practice driving. How many lessons you need will depend on how quickly you learn, it takes most people 45 hours of lessons to learn how to drive, plus 22 hours of private practicing with family members”.

It is very difficult to answer because everyone learns at their own pace. With our many years of experience we can say an average student would require 30 hours of driving lessons. We have had some exceptional students who pass their driving test in 16-20 hours only. We at IP4 Learner Driver offers an assessment lesson that will help us assess your abilities and will be able to tell you how many lessons you going to need to get to test standard.

Do I need to pass my theory test before I can start driving lessons?

No. You don’t have to. But its better to learn theory whilst you are learning the practical driving. Pass your theory as early as poosible.
